John Conlee sings his huge hit “Common Man” on Larry’s Country Diner

Conlee was born on August 11, 1946 in Versailles, Kentucky. By age 10, he began singing and playing guitar, and later sang tenor in a barber shop quartet. Before his musical career, he became a licensed mortician and later a disc jockey. 

In 1971, he moved to Nashville, TN and began pursuing a musical career, signing to ABC Records in 1976. Conlee charted for the first time in 1978 with “Rose Colored Glasses.” He has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1981.

Some of his most popular songs include: “Common Man,” “I’m Only in It for the Love,” “As Long as I’m Rockin’ with You,” “Years After You,” “Old School,” “Got My Heart Set on You,” “Domestic Life,” and “Mama’s Rockin’ Chair.” 

Johns’ newest single is a Vince Gill/Leslie Satcher penned story of redemption called “Bread And Water.”
