Jason Crabb sings “Down at the Cross”

Jason Douglas Crabb was born on March 3, 1977 in Beaver Dam, Kentucky. He began his career in music alongside his four siblings as the lead singer of their family band, The Crabb Family. The group consisted of twin brothers Adam and Aaron, and sisters Kelly and Terah. The band was founded by their parents Gerald and Kathy in 1996, and was managed by Kathy until the siblings decided to pursue individual paths in 2007. However, in 2012, The Crabb Family, came together for a reunion project called Together Againwhich was self-produced by Jason and released with Gaither Music Group.

Aside from his success with The Crabb Family, Jason managed to create an impressive career as a solo artist. In 2009, he was signed to Spring Hill Music Group and released his self-titled debut album which reached the No. 2 spot on the Christian charts and earned him a Grammy award for “Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Gospel Album” in 2010. This project was also nominated for a Dove award for “Country Album of the Year.” Jason released a Christmas album the following year called Because It’s Christmas, which found its way to No. 6 on the Holiday charts.

Crabb has also appeared on screen for various special occasions. In October, 2012, Crabb was a guest on Marie Osmand’s Hallmark show, Marie. He was also featured in Fox news segment with anchor Kelly Wright during a segment called “Beyond The Dream.” Shortly thereafter, Jason teamed up with Sandi Patty for a Christmas Celebration tour which included a stop in New York City that raised money for Hurricane Sandy relief.

Crabb’s most recent album, Unexpected, was released in April, 2018 and won him his second Grammy award, this time for “Best Roots Gospel Album.” His prior album, Whatever The Road, released in 2015, was nominated for a Grammy for “Best Contemporary Christian Album.”

Throughout his career, Crabb was voted “Favorite Male Vocalist” at the first annual Harmony Honors Awards and “Favorite Young Artist” at the 2000 Singing News Fan Awards. In 2004, he was voted “Gospel Music Male Vocalist of the Year” and has worked extensively with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir as a soloist. He has also won two Grammy Awards, and 21 Dove Awards.
