Vincent’s musical career began when she was a child in her family’s band The Sally Mountain Show, and has spanned more than four decades. Vincent first achieved success in the bluegrass genre in the 1970s and ’80s, earning the respect of her mostly male peers for her mastery of the progressive chord structures and multi-range, fast-paced vocals intrinsic to bluegrass music. Vincent is an in-demand guest vocalist for other bluegrass and country music performers, appearing on recordings by Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson, Tanya Tucker, Joe Diffie and other notables.

More on Rhonda Vincent

Rhonda Vincent (born Rhonda Lynn Vincent on November 23, 1960) is an American bluegrass singer, songwriter and instrumentalist.

She was born in Gallipolis, Ohio and raised in East Peoria, Illinois. Her father was a guitar player and her mother was a piano player. When she was eight years old she started playing the mandolin because she liked the sound of it better than the guitar. She eventually learned to play all the instruments in her family’s band: banjo, guitar, mandolin and fiddle.

Vincent attended college at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she majored in psychology and sociology with a minor in music education. After graduating from college she taught music for two years before moving to Nashville to pursue a career as a full-time musician.

In 1986, Vincent formed Rhonda Vincent & The Rage with her husband Jeff; they were nominated for several awards including Vocal Group of The Year from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and Entertainer of The Year by the Academy of Country Music (ACM). In 1988 they released their first album titled “Rhonda Vincent & the Rage”, which won them their first Dove Award for Bluegrass Album of The Year. Since then, Vincent has released dozens of albums and won multiple Dove Awards, IBMA awards and ACM awards for her contributions to bluegrass music. She has also received two Grammy nominations; one in 2009 for Best Country Instrumental Performance for “Highway of Dreams”, the other in 2011 for Best Bluegrass Album for “The Storm”.
